Unlike traditional delivery methods such as oral tablets, capsules, intravenous injections, inhalation preparations, and transdermal patches, modern drug delivery systems leverage advanced technologies with significant technical complexity. These include approaches based on liposomes, nanoparticles, microspheres, exosomes, engineered AAV vectors, and 3D-printed drug formulations. By adjusting drug delivery and release locations, altering drug metabolism within the body, enhancing sustained and controlled-release properties, and enabling penetration of physiological barriers like the blood-brain barrier, these innovative systems improve drug efficacy while reducing toxic side effects.
