Glycoproteins, Glycopeptides (262)

Glycoproteins are proteins that contain oligosaccharide chains covalently attached, typically through glycosylation during co-translational or post-translational modification. Their structure includes two main components: a polypeptide chain and a sugar moiety, linked via glycopeptide bonds. Glycoproteins are utilized in applications such as antibodies, vaccines, and diagnostic tools. Glycopeptides, on the other hand, are peptide molecules that include sugar chains, typically consisting of a small number of amino acids and one or more sugar units. Depending on how the sugars are connected to the amino acids, glycopeptides can be classified into N-glycosylation, O-glycosylation, and O-GlcNAc glycosylation. They are widely used in the development of antibiotics and drug design.
