GLP-1R (371)

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), secreted by intestinal L cells, enhances insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner by interacting with the GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R). This receptor, part of the G-protein coupled receptor family, is predominantly expressed on pancreatic β cells and large ducts. Activation of GLP-1R has been shown to improve insulin secretion and support beta cell glucose sensing, transcription, synthesis, proliferation, and survival. GLP-1R agonists are currently under investigation for their potential roles in treating type 2 diabetes, obesity, and NASH.
