Fluorene is an aromatic hydrocarbon with a fused benzene ring system, known for its high thermal stability and excellent hole transport capabilities. Fluorenones, which are fluorene derivatives containing a keto group, also exhibit favorable electronic properties. Both fluorenes and fluorenones can be readily functionalized with a variety of substituents to fine-tune their electronic and optical characteristics for specific applications. Thanks to their stable and rigid aromatic frameworks, they are frequently employed as core structures in the design of small molecule semiconductors.
