Photoreactive crosslinkers are compounds capable of initiating chemical crosslinking reactions upon light irradiation. Common examples include aryl azides (AZs), benzophenones (BPs), diaziridines (DAs), and 2-aryl-5-carboxytetrazoles (ACTs). When exposed to ultraviolet light of specific wavelengths, these compounds generate reactive intermediates such as nitrene, diradical, carbene, and carboxynitrile imine. Notably, carbene-mediated photoaffinity labeling is extensively utilized for identifying drug targets.
